Request for Judicial Nominee Endorsements

Colorado State Court Vacancies

The Judicial Nominations Committee of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Colorado (APABA) considers candidates for county, district, Colorado Court of Appeals, and Colorado Supreme Court vacancies for endorsement to the Governor or the Mayor. Nominees are invited to request for APABA endorsement by submitting the following:

1.      Your public application

2.      A cover letter identifying how your history, experience, actions, achievements and/or future goals demonstrate a commitment to and in furtherance of APABA’s mission. Please also include your involvement with APABA and/or the Asian American community in Colorado

3.      (Optional) Request for an in-person or phone interview. Please include dates/times that you are available, and the committee will do its best to accommodate interview requests.

In order to ensure timely submission of endorsement letters to the Governor/Mayor, all materials must be submitted by 5:00PM on the day after the short list is publicly announced. For example, if the short list is publicly announced on May 1st, request for endorsement is due by 5:00PM on May 2nd. All materials must be submitted by email to APABAnominations@gmail.com.  We recognize this is a short time frame, but we want to ensure the Governor/Mayor has time to consider our comments.  Requests submitted after the deadline will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis at APABA’s discretion.

As each endorsement is considered individually, we request that nominees submit a request for each position even if they have submitted materials previously. Please note that a request for endorsement does not compel or require APABA Colorado to make any endorsement. The committee also has the discretion to request additional information from the candidate as necessary.

APABA’s mission is as follows:  To represent the interests of the Asian American community and attorneys; to speak on behalf of, and advocate, the interests and ideas of Asian American attorneys in Colorado; to foster the exchange of ideas and information among and between the organization’s members and other members of the legal profession, the judiciary, and the legal community; to encourage and promote the professional growth of the members of the organization; to broaden opportunities for Asian American lawyers and law students; to present educational programs aimed at the needs of the practice of Asian American attorneys; to provide an opportunity for fellowship among the organization’s members; to provide coordinated services to the Colorado Community; to develop and encourage cooperation with the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association and with other organizations of minority attorneys; provide a vehicle and forum for the unified expression of opinions and positions by the organization’s members upon current social, political, economic, legal, or other matters or events of concern to the members of the organization; and to serve as a communication network among Asian American attorneys across the state.
